Sam and Caroline were delighted to travel to Chicago to attend the November Discover Conference. They were also in Chicago the night the Cubs won the World Series. Since they were staying in a hotel, Sam said the crowd at the bar was not as exuberant as you might have expected–guess everyone was from out of town! Caroline wrote this post about their time there.

Sam Fessenden and I attended the ADSA Discover Conference on Big Data Dairy Management, November 1-4 in Chicago IL (really Oak Brook).   The conference was packed with information on “Big Data” including presentations on a diversity of topics, ranging from data visualization to the legalities of data use to how to pick a winning basketball team.

The program was well attended with over 170 registrants from 14 countries and 30 states.  The session format was excellent for discussion.  After 2 presentations there was 30 minutes of discussion and questions for the speakers.  Breaks and meals were a great time to meet with speakers and other attendees.

It is clear that this is an area of great interest to the dairy industry.  Many groups (including AMTS) are working on or contemplating how to integrate the many data types and sources into one platform that will allow producers to easily make well informed management decisions.

The Chicago Cubs won the World series while we were in Chicago attending the Discover conference.  That was fun!  This guy (in the middle) was really a BIG fan.
